ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Economics Postgraduate Scholarship was launched in the Autumn 2008 and is funded by the University of Sussex Economics Department and the economics alumni.
The Scholarship is for African students only and will cover the full cost of tuition fees, as well as a grant of £10 000 for maintenance expenses. However, the scholarship does not cover the cost of travel expenses.
The aim of the scholarship is to provide funding opportunities to African students (as this is lacking in African countries) and to attract well qualified students who would otherwise not be able to afford to further their studies.

MSc Economics / MSc Development Economics
Please ensure that you meet these minimum entry criteria before applying:
- National of a sub-Saharan African country: Nigeria; Botswana; Uganda; Zambia; Kenya; Malawi; Cameroon; Sudan; Uganda; Ghana; Democratic Republic of Congo; Congo; Angola; Zimbabwe; Burkina Faso; Senegal; Mali; Ethiopia; Namibia; South Sudan; Liberia; Cote D’Ivoire; Tanzania; Mozambique; Swaziland; Burundi; Togo; Sierra Leone; Benin; Rwanda; Lesotho
- Completed an undergraduate degree qualification in Africa
- Received and accepted an offer of a place from the University of Sussex to study one of the following: Economics MSc/ Development Economics MSc, commencing in September 2018
- Willing to sign a Scholar’s Agreement by the University Development & Alumni Relations Office
HOW TO APPLY
Before you can apply for the scholarship award, you must have received and accepted an offer from the University to commence your studies towards an Economics or Development Economics MSc in September 2018.
When applying for admission to the University, you must indicate in the financial section of the application about your interest in being considered for the scholarship.
Successful applicants will be informed by 31 July 2018.
